Hector's Roller Disco | Edinburgh Festival Thursdays┏(°.°)┛ The year is 1978 and disco fever is rife. Under the glimmering disco balls in discotheques across the US and Europe, clubbers spend their weekends listening to the sounds of The Bee Gees, KC & The Sunshine Band, Chic, and Donna Summer. In rolls someone with a pair of roller skates on and the roller disco is born. By 1984, the trend has been imported to the UK and a generation of fun seeking individuals enjoy many an evening on 4 wheels. Fast forward 30 or so years to January 2015 and we relived this magical era by holding a series of roller discos across 3 consecutive sold-out nights at Edinburgh's seminal venue, Studio 24. After the success of this series, we've been waiting for the right opportunity for Hector's Roller Disco to return. We're super-happy that it will return in style at one of the capital's most legendary historic clubbing institutions, La Belle Angele. We've chosen this venue due it's size, location, layout, history, and vibe. Our main room skating rink will feature a soundtrack of the finest disco, soul, funk, and boogie courtesy of our musical host with the most, Gav Miller. Each week room 2 will also be transformed into a warehouse-style space with a different party crew taking over the room. We've invited Hometown, Confidance, Eyeangle Records, and The Mirror Dance to each host one party, so expect everything from house to Italo to acid to techno to R&B to world music. Series 2 will take place on Thursday 2nd August (preview party - 3am licence) and then every Thursday during the festival - 9th/16th/23rd (5am licences). Every night will feature two skating sessions. 'Early Skaters' will skate from 12-2.30am and 'Late Skaters' will skate from 2.30-5am. The preview party sessions will run 10pm-12.30am and 12.30-3am. So the choice is yours - arrive at the start and skate during the first session and then stay late for our other entertainment, or arrive whenever and then skate later. We're hoping people will take advantage of the two-roomed skating and clubbing experience and join us for the full duration of the party. Aside from our skating and musical offering, there'll be a glitter station, retro sweets, retro board games, and a viewing platform. Advanced tickets, priced at £8-12 (preview party: £4-8) will grant you access to the venue for the full night and you'll then skate during your chosen 2.5 hour session. These tickets, which are super-limited for each session to ensure maximum skate time and enjoyment, will go on sale on Friday (13/07) morning at 9am. Tickets include roller skate and wrist protection hire (organised by Edinburgh roller skate Dons, United SK8S), a custom Hector's Roller Disco pin badge, and free guestlist to a Tuesday (you choose the date) festival shindig at Cab Vol. There will also be 'Spectator' tickets available so you can join the party but not skate. Hector's Roller Disco will be the Edinburgh Festival's ONLY roller disco so come on down to La Belle each and every Thursday in August, strap on a pair of roller skates and take in the sounds of the 70s and 80s at what promises to be four very special evenings.
