Miles & Erica of The Wonder Stuff // Plus Special Guests

Miles Hunt & Erica Nockalls

2017 UK Tour

The Wonder Stuff’s Miles Hunt & Erica Nockalls will be touring the UK in September and October this year in support of the duo’s third studio album.

In response to being asked about the new album and tour Hunt remarked

“We decided to take the first few months of the year off from gigging, most unusual for us, to stay home to write and record a new album together. The time spent off the road allowed us to thoroughly immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the new record. Conversely the time off also refreshed our appetite for getting back on stage!”

When asked if the duo will be performing any of the old favourites alongside songs from the new release whilst on tour Hunt replied

“The plan is for us to play the newer material in the earlier part of our sets and work our way toward the better known songs by the end of the evening. It would be churlish not to, right?”

Andy Shauf

The Party is the Anti Records debut for this Canadian songwriter, who grew up in small-town Saskatchewan.

Awkward characters show up “Early to the Party,” and either reveal life-changing secrets (“To You”) or try their hardest to reveal nothing at all (“The Magician”). In “a city the size of a dinner plate,” everyone knew the guy who keeled over dead after smoking what he promised would be his last pack of cigarettes (“Alexander All Alone”). The girl dancing by herself, unselfconsciously, in the middle of the room, with the “Eyes of Them All” upon her. One moment you’re dancing with someone who bears an uncanny resemblance to your ex (“Martha Sways”), and later you start slagging your best friend as way of endearing yourself to his recently dumped ex (“Quite Like You”).

Did that all really happen in the same night? It certainly happens in the space of this tightly narrated thirty-eight minutes, all set to ornate arrangements of fuzzed-out guitars, string sections, clarinets and dreamy synths, all draped over delicate piano, acoustic guitars and rainy-day drums.

The Party is not exactly a concept record, but it was a way for the singer-songwriter to get out of his own head. An after-party record, more like it. Or for the hangover the next day, when only Shauf’s songs can make any sense of the emotionally-charged scenarios that played out the night before.

Riot Jazz & Thumpasaurus
August 13th

Riot Jazz & Thumpasaurus

Sound the horns! One of our favourite bad ass brass bands is back to grace the stage of La Belle with proper style and panache.

Celebrating their brand spanking new record ‘Live at Band on the Wall’, Riot Jazz bring their unique musical blend to the heart of Edinburgh’s Cowgate – the 9-barrelled Balkan-to-Brooklyn brass-boosted bounce that straddles genres and defies convention!

Since setting sail in late-noughties Manchester, Riot Jazz Brass Band has been the bare-breasted, fist-pumping galleon figure of the Riot Jazz armada. Stirring up a hot-pot of peace-lovin’ aggro-jazz and re-interpreted dancefloor bangers, these brass-wielding super-heroes of fine-tuning the good times have filled ear-holes, dance floors and festival fields across countries and continents!

If you’ve never had this lot metaphorically smash you in the face with their explosive performances before, don’t be alarmed – they’re seasoned professionals. Come down to La Belle for a boogie and sweat it out with one of the finest bands to hit the UK in a long time.
