Abstrakt Edinburgh: Line-Up Announcement
After deciding to drop Jeremy Underground to headline Friday’s party, we have managed to secure a very special replacement…

Theo Kottis

For the first time ever, Edinburgh’s favourite son will play a very special, extended b2b set with legendary Glasgow DJ, Domenic Cappello. In support, we have also added one of Scotland’s fastest rising talents in Kieran Apter.

Theo Kottis b2b Domenic Cappello (00:30 – 04:00)
Kieran Apter (23:00 – 00:30)

After standing up to the bullies and exposing what is a massive problem within our scene, we now have a line up featuring some of the best DJs in the country – who all want to play our party for the right reasons!

Tickets for this event have been reduced to just £6 in advance and, since it does not feel right to financially profit from the ‘Saunagate’ publicity, all profits exceeding the money already lost through cancelling the booking will now be donated to helping the homeless, through Shelter… because not everyone can afford to turn their noses up at 4* spa hotels.

Get tickets now and show your support for one hell of a cause and one hell of a party, this Friday night at La Belle Angele. Be quick, we have a feeling this one’s gonna be popular;

PS – we’d like to thank Jeremy Underground for offering to “refund anything the promoter has paid from (his) own pocket”. Once these funds are received, we’ll also be putting these into the pot towards a really good cause.

The Blueswater Edinburgh Bash

The Blueswater Edinburgh Bash

The Blueswater Edinburgh Bash (support from Logan’s Close, Melisa Kelly and the Smokin’ Crows). Award winning rhythm and blues band The Blueswater will be ending their UK tour in style, and they are bringing friends. Expect loads of sweat and dancing.

The Blueswater is an award winning, Edinburgh based band that tours internationally. Influenced by gritty, old-school rhythm and blues they blend the Chicago sound of Chess records with the earthy, droning grooves of Mississippi to create a style that is truly unique. Thick guitar riffs and frenzied harmonica solos are built around driving rhythms to create raucous, high-energy performances.

In 2011, they premiered their show BLUES! At the Edinburgh Fringe to great acclaim, and in 2012 received a Mervyn Stutter Spirit of the Fringe Award. The show, a musical history of the blues genre, now regularly tours across the UK.

‘Edinburgh act The Blueswater have built a solid reputation in blues circles, both in Scotland and further afield.’ – The Scotsman

‘Definitely a band to watch!’ – Blues in Britain

‘Terrific set of blues songs performed with zest and wit. Great night out.’ – Ian Rankin

Support from Logan’s Close, Melisa Kelly and the Smokin’ Crows

STORYTIME presents: Romare (DJ set)

Anddddddd we’re back! It’s chapter 2 of STORYTIME, and we’re very excited to welcome Romare to Edinburgh!

Romare, who’s debut album Projections (2015) fast became an electronic classic, is joining us at La Belle Angele on the 3rd November. Prepare for a funky, disco-influenced DJ set that will definitely get you dancing. Signed to Ninja Tune, Romare released his second EP Love Songs Pt. 2 last year, exposing a subtler, nuanced side to his production. We’re more than excited for this one, as belters like ‘Rainbows’ and ‘Work Song’ have been propped by the likes of Gilles Peterson and have been gracing our stereos with their unusual and original sound since their release.

As we’re sure you’re all aware, tragically Studio 24 has been the latest Edinburgh venue casualty in the never-ending battle between club owners and property developers, money-grabbers and complaining neighbours. The loss of such an iconic and important space in the city hit us hard.

But we’re also more than excited to set-up our new home in the Cowgate’s historic La Belle Angele!

Come and dance to good music with us x

Miles & Erica of The Wonder Stuff // Plus Special Guests

Miles Hunt & Erica Nockalls

2017 UK Tour

The Wonder Stuff’s Miles Hunt & Erica Nockalls will be touring the UK in September and October this year in support of the duo’s third studio album.

In response to being asked about the new album and tour Hunt remarked

“We decided to take the first few months of the year off from gigging, most unusual for us, to stay home to write and record a new album together. The time spent off the road allowed us to thoroughly immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the new record. Conversely the time off also refreshed our appetite for getting back on stage!”

When asked if the duo will be performing any of the old favourites alongside songs from the new release whilst on tour Hunt replied

“The plan is for us to play the newer material in the earlier part of our sets and work our way toward the better known songs by the end of the evening. It would be churlish not to, right?”

Andy Shauf
Aug 21st

Andy Shauf

The Party is the Anti Records debut for this Canadian songwriter, who grew up in small-town Saskatchewan.

Awkward characters show up “Early to the Party,” and either reveal life-changing secrets (“To You”) or try their hardest to reveal nothing at all (“The Magician”). In “a city the size of a dinner plate,” everyone knew the guy who keeled over dead after smoking what he promised would be his last pack of cigarettes (“Alexander All Alone”). The girl dancing by herself, unselfconsciously, in the middle of the room, with the “Eyes of Them All” upon her. One moment you’re dancing with someone who bears an uncanny resemblance to your ex (“Martha Sways”), and later you start slagging your best friend as way of endearing yourself to his recently dumped ex (“Quite Like You”).

Did that all really happen in the same night? It certainly happens in the space of this tightly narrated thirty-eight minutes, all set to ornate arrangements of fuzzed-out guitars, string sections, clarinets and dreamy synths, all draped over delicate piano, acoustic guitars and rainy-day drums.

The Party is not exactly a concept record, but it was a way for the singer-songwriter to get out of his own head. An after-party record, more like it. Or for the hangover the next day, when only Shauf’s songs can make any sense of the emotionally-charged scenarios that played out the night before.
