Too Many Zooz // Edinburgh

Bam!Bam!Bam! presents

At the 2016 CMA Awards one sound burst from the stage like a thunderquake. Beyoncé performed “Daddy Lessons” accompanied by Dixie Chicks and TOO MANY ZOOZ – the New York City trio which originally recorded the song on the star’s Lemonade album—the trio bringing the sound of the street to Beyoncé’s glittering musical declaration. Glued to their smart phones, tablets, and TVs, America beheld Too Many Zooz’ innovative polyglot style.

Beyoncé and Dixie Chicks sashayed the song’s verses in a rollicking country vibe, but as the performance neared midpoint, a tall, burly baritone saxophonist with a luminous white pompadour took the stage like a bar-walking gladiator. TMZ’s Leo Pellegrino danced, shimmied, and shaked, matching Beyoncé move for move, while blowing growling saxophone notes that brought urban funk to “Daddy Lessons”’ two-beat country jig. TMZ trumpeter Matt Doe and drummer King of Sludge performed on the stage’s backline as a blaring multiple horn line raised “Daddy Lessons”’ intensity, followed by Beyoncé and Dixie Chicks focusing on the song’s political theme with sledgehammer intent.

Too Many Zooz’s baritone saxophonist Pellegrino, trumpeter Matt Doe, and drummer King of Sludge held Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena stage for mere minutes, but the same talent that moved Beyoncé to have the group record both “Daddy Lessons” and “Formation” on Lemonade has seen the trio sell thousands of CDs and downloads, and inspired viral videos liked by hundreds of thousands of Too Many Zooz’s fans, worldwide.

Too Many Zooz’s manic music, dubbed “BrassHouse” by drummer King of Sludge, is an irresistible rocket that combines styles more far-flung than any international space station. As heard on the group’s EPs, F NOTE, Fanimals, Brasshouse Volume 1: Survival of the Flyest, The Internet, and LP, Subway Gawdz, Too Many Zooz creates a visceral vocal-free smack-to-the-senses. TMZ’s Brasshouse summons EDM, house, techno, and glitch, paired to the indigenous punch of Cuban, Afro-Cuban, Caribbean, and Brazilian Carnival rhythms, heightened by the dancing and saxophone soloing prowess of a bionic Pepper Adams. Like Nortec Collective mashed with Daft Punk by way of a mad sonic scientist, Too Many Zooz has conquered New York City – your headset’s resistance is futile.

Groovers Presents: Simone Liberali

We start again with another big thanks to all of you Groovers for bringing an incredible vibe to every party. Without fail, night after night the buzz gets better and better. Its great to see so much love for the music!

To celebrate we’ve invited down one of our favourite groovers – Simone Liberali to La Belle Angèle.

Simone is a fresh young Italian DJ, who is receiving huge amounts of international recognition with his own music; played by the likes of Marco Carola, Paco Osuna, Steve Lawler, Carl Cox, Nic Fanciulli, Hot Since 82, Nicole Moudaber, Joseph Capriati, Karotte, Joris Voorn and much more!

His sets are renown for being full of incredibly energetic, warmly percussive & bassline driven Grooves, leading to him being booked to play in some of the best clubs in Europe, USA & South America.

His track “Can’t You See” reached the #2 position on the Beatport Tech House chart and the #3 position on All Genres of the world becoming the most played track at Bpm Festival 2017.

Much of his music has inspired the sound that Groovers has today, so as you can imagine we’re very excited to have him down.

Support from Sesentayuno (Jak-Daw Records, CRAFT Underground, 18-09 Records, Art Nouveau Records)

Tickets – £10

STORYTIME presents: Romare (DJ set)

Anddddddd we’re back! It’s chapter 2 of STORYTIME, and we’re very excited to welcome Romare to Edinburgh!

Romare, who’s debut album Projections (2015) fast became an electronic classic, is joining us at La Belle Angele on the 3rd November. Prepare for a funky, disco-influenced DJ set that will definitely get you dancing. Signed to Ninja Tune, Romare released his second EP Love Songs Pt. 2 last year, exposing a subtler, nuanced side to his production. We’re more than excited for this one, as belters like ‘Rainbows’ and ‘Work Song’ have been propped by the likes of Gilles Peterson and have been gracing our stereos with their unusual and original sound since their release.

As we’re sure you’re all aware, tragically Studio 24 has been the latest Edinburgh venue casualty in the never-ending battle between club owners and property developers, money-grabbers and complaining neighbours. The loss of such an iconic and important space in the city hit us hard.

But we’re also more than excited to set-up our new home in the Cowgate’s historic La Belle Angele!

Come and dance to good music with us x
